We Like  but you didnt hear it from me!

What is Connemara?

If you have a sense of history, perhaps the word 'Connemara' itself is the description! No adjectives needed! However, Oscar Wide famously describe it as 'Savage beauty'.

Others use words like: Enigmatic, mysterious, evoking, mystical, uncanny, beautiful, iconic, wild, amazing, inspiring, untamed, unfettered, haunting, remote, secret, hidden, arcane, deep, and unspoilt!  Patrick Pearse described it as a "little Gaelic kingdom of our own".

Others who try to capture the historical sadness of the place might use words like desolate, haunted, bleak, scarred, famine-stricken,"  grief-laden, lost, abandoned.

These words evoke the sense of a landscape that has borne witness to hardship and loss, perhaps even a sense of emptiness.

Lough Corrib Charts

by Trevor Northage (Angling Charts). The Corrib Charts are no less than a work of art.

Trevor Northage is a Master Mariner and spent 6 years charting the lake from his boat, Burlesque. Trevor has certainly made a most significant contribution to the combined knowledge of The Corrib, and to his great credit, a massive contribution to the safety of any who venture out on its waters.

Blackrock Cottage Restaurant, Salthill  Galway

When in Galway and you find yourself out on the Promenade at Salthill, pop into the Cottage near to Blackrock Diving Tower and taste some the best food in Galway. This is our favourite place for lunch when in Salthill, Galway.

Ballinahinch Castle Hotel

We think this is a jewel in the crown of Connemara. The hotel is set in a private estate of 700 acres, has a really friendly atmosphere, the food is delicious, the prices are fair, and the grounds, river, lake walks and beautiful walled garden are no less than stunning. We love to spend a whole day here - its that special!

Glassilaun Beach in Connemara, a hidden gem of Galway, has been recognised as one of 'Europe's best' beaches by Guardian Travel.

More you come in the coming weeks :-)

We recommend that you buy a cope of Trevor Northage's fabolous 'The Lough Corrib Chart Book'.
